Daisy Ramirez needs our help. On Saturday, December 14, while walking home from a long day of studying for her first college finals, Daisy was hit by a motorist. She was severely injured and rushed to the hospital where she arrived with many broken bones and major head trauma.
At 18, Daisy was living her dream. Eight years ago, as a 6th grade student at EA Hall Middle School, she walked into our first ever Technology-Education-Community (TEC) class. Since that day she has been hooked and was pursuing her degree in Computer Science in a joint 3 year program between Hartnell Community College and California State University Monterey Bay. She had recently wrote an article for the TEC newsletter that was scheduled to be released this month. In the article she wrote “Right now I’m taking 18 units, which is five classes. Every day I go to school with a big smile on my face, ready to learn new things, things that will help me in the future. While being in this program I’m not allowed to get a grade below of a C, which is truly a challenge, I stay at school until I’m practically kicked out. I stay there studying and doing homework. I can actually say I live there; I get home between 10-11pm.”
Daisy is a role model for her family, community, and continuing TEC students, especially the girls. She inspires people on a daily basis by her sheer determination and grace. She is that one student who always finds a way to help others, speaks on behalf of the TEC program, and mentors young students in the community interested in technology.
Behind this amazing girl is a family just as amazing. Her parents, Veronica and Adolfo, have been at her side every day. Through every camp, field trip, or class Daisy participated in, and whether they fully understood what TEC was exactly, Veronica and Adolfo were always by her side, showing their support. The amazing part about all this is that Daisy was doing all of it because she wanted to better support them.
While Daisy can’t support her family at the moment, we can. Let’s all give a little so that her family does not have to worry about the mounting medical bills and travel expenses and instead focus on their little girl’s recovery.
“I wasn’t sure what I was going to do later on in the computer science field, well I still don’t know what part of that field I want to look into, but I know that my passion is with technology. I’m lucky that I have this opportunity and know for sure that I will not take it for granted.” -Daisy Ramirez
